Colour inside and out
The final coat of red render has been applied to the main entrance and this striking colour definitely draws attention to the entrance. Everyone seems to like the colour. The scaffolding has dropped from the upper block and soffits and external lighting are now being installed. It is a pity that the weather has become wet again as this may delay the application of the render to the lower block.
Inside, however, work continues in earnest. The initial coats of bold feature wall colours are being applied and some members of staff and students have had a sneak preview. As the walls are painted the ceiling grids can be suspended ready for second fix electrics to be fitted and ceiling tiles. Toilet pans and basins are now on site and being fitted, and the internal doors have also been delivered to site and fitted. The doors have been protected with cardboard, until the very end of the contract, so they cannot be seen in the photographs yet.
Now that the scaffolding has been dropped from the upper sixth form block, the site can be tidied ready to commence setting out of the external works around the upper block.
The science extension is well on its way towards an early completion. The island pods have been installed and the remaining loose furniture delivered. The final fix of mechanical and electrical installations is being completed so that the floor finishes can be laid and the furniture fitted. Externally, the last pre-cast external stair is being lifted into place and external brickwork completed.
The new foundations have been poured for the dining room extension and the steelwork is being erected. Block work substructures are being constructed.
What’s happening next? Over the next few weeks you will see:
• Lettering going on
• Kitchen fittings arriving
• Lifts being installed
