Science in the final straight
In the Science extension, pin boards have now been fixed to the walls, the furniture has been arranged, shelving put up and surfaces cleaned. The yellow pipes you can see contain the gas supply for the laboratories. Break glass points and fire escape signs are in place, and only the smart boards and white boards remain to be fitted. Snagging to identify items requiring attention continues, with the list getting shorter as the work here nears its end.
On the terrace outside Science, the paving slabs have now been laid and the handrails fitted to the tops of the walls. The tarmac play court has been finished, and is being pressure washed along with all the other external surfaces to clean off the mud and dust of construction and prepare them for use.
At Huish Sixth, the kerbs for the new access road are now in place, and the finishing touches are being made to the bridge link after which the scaffolding will be removed.
Work on the internal spaces continues at a pace, with the entrance hall being painted, the lift car now in place, and furniture and carpets being delivered. As you can imagine, this can be a difficult time for the Contractor who has to coordinate all these activities against the clock.
What’s happening next? Over the next few weeks you will see:
• Science being handed over to the school
• External works at Huish Sixth
• The bridge link revealed
• More trees being planted
