Almost there at Huish Sixth

With the works on site entering the final weeks, the Contractor is very busy putting the finishing touches to the building. Decorations are largely complete throughout, and the electrical installation, heating and plumbing works are being snagged. The servery has been fitted and the hall is now ready for the specialist sub-contractors for the stage sound and lighting to begin their work.

On the first floor, a business suite has been designed to be subdivided using sliding, folding acoustic partitions which allow the spaces to be used more flexibly. The partitions have been fitted by a specialist sub-contractor, and are smooth and easy to operate despite being substantial enough to provide effective sound separation between the subdivided spaces.

The external works are also close to completion, with roadways and pathways now finished and trees and shrubs being planted across the site. The cooler weather we’ve been having has arrived just in time to give all the new planting a slightly easier start. A little light rain would help them settle in, so fingers crossed they’ll all be growing well by the start of term.

The cedar boarding to the bridge link is now complete, and the floor deck is ready for the ‘runway’ style lighting to be inserted. The protective covering of the glass balustrade will be removed when all the works are complete in this area.

Inside the building, the glass balustrades and handrails have now all had their protective coverings removed to reveal the interior finishes. It’s now possible to get a clear impression of how the building will look when completely finished - and it is coming together very well.

In the dining hall extension, work has been progressing rapidly. The exterior masonry is complete, the roof is on, interior walls have been plastered and the glazing is being installed. Final fix mechanical and electrical installations are now taking place.
