Lots of Snow
Happy New Year!
While the school has been shut because of heavy snow for most of the first week of term, the builder has tried to keep the site open; only closing for a day or so. The heavy snow and low temperatures have affected progress for the science extension, which still needs its masonry completed, but the sixth form building - which is using dry construction - is progressing well.
While there may not be much visible activity on the outside of the sixth form building at the moment, there is a lot happening inside. The internal partitions are being built and the containment for services for the inside of the building is being installed. The picture shows ventilation ducts, and the lightweight steel frame which will provide the studwork for the internal partitions. At the left of the picture you can also see the steel frame semi-circle which forms the double-height entrance foyer. The spaces in the building are all now taking shape and we hope to be able to arrange some site visits soon.
On the science extension, the steel roof decking has been laid onto the primary steel structure to form the decking for the roof, allowing the temporary bracing to be safely removed. The insulation and single ply roofing membrane can now proceed. The masonry is very wet, so we are hoping for some better weather to assist with the drying out.
What’s happening next?
Over the next few weeks you will see:
• The exterior cladding for the Sixth form building being installed
• The roof ‘sandwich’ being completed to the science building
• Science extension connecting with the existing science block
