Queens College Science Building The project included 3 chemistry labs, 3 biology labs, 2 prep rooms, an IT suite, an animal room and stores. The new building is built over existing labs that were refurbished and altered. The structural steel frame is clad in unseasoned oak boarding. Energy efficient Eco-Homes, Bridgwater Six new homes are to be built on an area of previously developed land within the grounds of the existing 19th Century building. The homes are designed to be efficient in their construction, energy requirements in use and maintenance costs. They are designed to a “Very Good” Eco-Homes rating. 522kb
Somerset College of Art and Technology The project involved the conversion of a teaching room into an open plan learning suite. Students can access locally stored data, books and the internet to research and complete projects. This project involved the planning of many interlinked services and operational aspects of this busy campus. It was successfully completed whilst the college remained in full operation. 868kb
Aspley Sure Start, Nottingham Designed to be a beacon of hope and health to the area. An adapted CLASP school provides a sixty place nursery with secure outside play gardens. New build health clinic, community rooms, drop-in cafe with kitchen for teaching catering skills. 832kb
Low cost housing, Axminster A development of low cost starter homes with a target cost of £50,000 per unit. No house overlooks any other. All houses have first floor living room and kitchen / diner for up to 6 people, two bedrooms, bathroom, roof terrace and parking. Each benefits from good quality daylight and privacy. 788kb
Student housing, Taunton A scheme to provide student and key worker modular housing on a site close to the Taunton town centre, to the hospital and colleges. The scheme aims to have a low energy footprint drawing heat from geothermal sources. Communal bars and meeting rooms will have elevated views over the town weir and park. 839kb
Exmoor National Park Visitor Centre A new interpretation facility telling the story of ‘Exmoor’s historic past’. The NPA commissioned a contemporary design that respects the integrity of the listed building and demonstrates sustainable building principles in a remote and sensitive rural location. 1000kb
Queens College Roof & Tower This Tudor Gothic building was designed by James Wilson of Bath and opened in 1846. Listed grade II* the repairs to the roof and tower were long overdue with water penetration, stone collapse and leadwork decay threatening to close the college. Works were carried out by specialist contractors during term time. 1500kb
Sustainable office & Workshop, Shapwick Heath The Client required a service workshop and offices for their joint works on the Somerset Levels nature reserve. It had to be an environmentally sensitive sustainable solution. The site, an old peat works, is surrounded by water and reed beds. Our building is to be floated on a concrete “raft” on the peat. 688kb
Trull Church, Taunton All Saints Church needed both careful repair to the ancient fabric and re-ordering to allow for growth. Repairs to the tower included stone conservation pointing and some new stone. Railings round the churchyard needed to be made safe and secure. The heating system has been replaced and now plans to alter the furnishing to allow greater access to families and the disabled are planned. 1800kb
Wellington Road Studio, Taunton The house built in 1850 was in a dilapidated condition. Extensive repair and new services have made a fine family home. Former coach houses have been converted into offices for architects. 1100kb
Social Housing, Wellington Design and construction of sustainable social housing for a tight site with many constraints. Our design seeks to create a sense of place to encourage ownership. The homes are to meet Lifetime Homes standards, Secured by Design and gain an Eco-Homes rating of Very Good. 980kb
Fancy Farm, Honiton, Devon We were asked to design the repair and alterations of this late medieval farm house to find its inherent beauty and insert new services to create a comfortable family home, holiday let and home office. 672kb
Aparthotel, Fowey, Devon On the site of a former gasworks, 18 apartments, with balconies overlooking the Fowey Estuary. Access to upper floors is by a glass funicular lift. A restaurant, pool and gym are at street level with car parking below ground. 1100kb
Horton Family House Our client wanted to develop the site with large family homes (3,000sq ft) that used one design with minimal variations. By setting the house behind stone faced garages each has a private entrance court to the north and large gardens facing south. We looked to create a calm elegance belying the size and limited mix. 1000kb
Isle bank, Donyatt This sustainable house is built on the banks of the river Isle in a conservation area near Illminster. Our clients wanted a home, painting studio, counselling room and business office. The construction uses dense masonry walls and solid floors as thermal mass with timber “I” beams to external walls and roof filled with insulation. 952kb
Offices and flats refurbishment, Bridgwater This refurbishment combines the re-organisation of a head office, implements new legislation for both offices & flats and repairs extensive dilapidation. The design creates offices compliant with the Disability Discrimination Act. The flats were remodelled to meet current housing needs for two bedroomed flats and exceed the Decent Homes minimum standards. 532kb
Great Bow Yard, Langport A shortlisted competition to design sustainable housing for a historically important wharf site. Our proposal, a confident urban design, would bring the river back to life with the animation of local events in the public square. The development would fund the renovation of the listed buildings and wharf. 832kb
Pennsylvania Park Exeter Apartments On the hill overlooking central Exeter is a conservation area of trees and fine houses. This apartment building is crafted to fit into this mature environment with copper roofs, terracotta panels and balconies with fine views. 528kb
Nattore Lodge, Budleigh Salterton A brown-field site in the centre of town which was to be developed for the retirement market. The scheme of 14 apartments with basement parking resolved the need to provide high density accommodation on a steeply sloping site. 956kb

Queens College Learning Resource Centre Study facilities and “chill out” lounge for 120 senior students. This refurbishment was designed to have a contemporary cool edge. A lounge, Internet café, study areas and seminar rooms were created including stretched fabric ceilings. 720kb
Sidcot School A feasibility study to provide Sidcot School with a new Performing and Creative Arts Centre. Our proposal, a confident and exciting design would provide a focal point for the school, creating harmony with the existing buildings, external spaces and vistas. 1300kb
Kings Hall Preparatory School Kings Hall is set in a beautiful country location in the grounds of Grade II* listed Pyrland Hall. The objective of its feasibility study was to assess potential locations for the redevelopment of the Pre-Prep, investigate the process of building, its impact on the school and formulate estimates of building costs. 1000kb
Queens College Pre-Prep Extension Two class spaces for the younger children and a new welcoming entrance was the essence of the brief. We created a covered courtyard that links new class bases with the old, this is now the heart of the school. 1016kb
Bucklers Mead, Yeovil 30 units that are arranged for easy upgrading from starter homes to 4 bed family live/work houses, designed to be adaptable to life time changes. 1000kb
Bucklers Mead 2, Yeovil 24 town centre homes facing south. The orientation maximises the passive gain. The three storey 4 bed homes are highly insulated pre-fabricated timber framed for the habitable rooms. No space heating is required. 596kb
Wellington Arts Centre Two schemes for a lottery bid. The first, low cost studio and foyer clad in cedar boarding and plywood with copper clad oriel window, gained planning support but was too hot for the neighbours!.
