Queens College Pre-Prep Extension

Two class spaces for the younger children and a new welcoming entrance was the essence of the brief. MRA designed a covered courtyard that links new class bases with the old, which is now the heart of the school. It is used informally for play, teaching, drama, TV and the throng of parents and children at the beginning and end of every day. Daylight, colour and good views make child friendly spaces. Each has quiet reading areas, play space for a Wendy house, floor finishes to allow for water and sand experimentation, and direct access to the garden for outside learning and teaching. The works included additional toilets, a head teacher’s office, a larger staff room and a safe play pitch sculpted into the hillside and landscaped.
